The new automated filter analysis system consists of a microscope, digital camera, and motorized stage with controller and analysis software.

Inspecting and analyzing residue on filters is vital for documenting purity and cleanliness of the manufacturing process and analyzing particles found in fluids. Particle-by-particle data is provided on every inspection, and records can be stored for an unlimited time. Data storage is automatic, and does not rely on users to remember how or where to archive data. The system adheres to international and/or user-definable standards, speed, enhancement of data integrity, and an automated one-touch function for ease of use. The system is designed to work with standard 47 mm filters.

The Olympus (Center Valley, PA, USA) automated filter analysis system makes identifying, reporting, and archiving images and information on residual particles fast, accurate, and reliable. The system automatically scans and analyses filters in less than two minutes. Platforms used are the BX upright microscope (for high resolution and identification of small particles >1 micron) and the SZX7 stereomicroscope (for larger particles and faster inspection).
