New features are now available to augment the performance of an instrument that combines the advanced capabilities of a multimode reader, incubator, cell counter, and dispenser.

Tecan (Männedorf, Switzerland) has introduced a number of new features for its Spark 10M multimode reader. These updates, which are the first for the innovative Spark 10M, include a cuvette port for absorbance measurements and an enhanced detection module.

The detection model combines a high power laser light source with low-pass and high-pass filters, using pre-optimized filter settings for assay performance in 96- and 384-well microplate formats. This option enables straightforward performance of immunoassays using the PerkinElmer (Waltham, MA, USA) AlphaScreen, AlphaLISA, and AlphaPlex protocols.

The instrument’s SparkControl software has also been enhanced, with a number of new and improved features to streamline routine activities and maximize productivity. The extended dynamic range option enables both low and high gain measurements within a single microplate. The software automatically correlates data across different gain settings, allowing an entire dataset to be viewed in a single graph.

In addition, the introduction of unique, one-click applications—including absorbance reading, cell counting, cell viability, nucleic acid quantification, and nucleic acid labeling efficiency—simplifies performance of optimized measurements, offering rapid, consistent results at the touch of a button.
