AI Platform Links Biomarker Results to Cancer Clinical Trials and Guidelines

Oncology teams must manage growing volumes of genomic data, rapidly evolving clinical trial options, and frequently updated care guidelines, all within tight clinic schedules. More...

Translating complex tumor profiling reports into timely, patient-ready insights remains challenging at the point of care. To help streamline this process, a new system will soon deliver artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled trial matching, results-integrated evidence retrieval, digitized guideline mapping, and patient education materials directly alongside comprehensive biomarker results.

Foundation Medicine, Inc. (Boston, MA, USA) will launch advanced digital solutions integrated with Roche’s navify Clinical Hub to equip U.S.-based providers with personalized insights at the point of care. Navify Clinical Hub is a disease-management solution for collaborative care teams, and the broader navify portfolio includes more than 130 digital solutions for laboratories, hospitals, and patients worldwide. Navify solutions connect the healthcare community with a robust digital infrastructure that integrates data efficiently and accelerates access to operational and medical insights.

Using selected tools from navify Clinical Hub, Foundation Medicine will ingest discrete, structured data and machine‑readable source documents from its own systems, providing real-time access to comprehensive biomarker testing results directly from the source laboratory. In contrast, other solutions often convert or extract data from electronic medical records or scanned documents, relying on manual or automated parsing that can introduce delays, errors, and gaps. By avoiding reconstruction from electronic medical records or scans, the workflow reduces reliance on parsing steps.

Integration with navify’s clinical trial match tool will link Foundation Medicine test results—and provider- or patient‑specified characteristics—to the most relevant trial options for a more precise, interactive experience. Providers can apply customized filters, such as preferential trial sites, and search global trials to expand opportunities. A results‑integrated publication search will enable quick, customizable access to the most current research published on biomarkers detected by Foundation Medicine tests, while digitized mapping to clinical guidelines will quickly visualize aligned care pathways.

An AI-powered patient education summary will translate complex genomic findings into understandable materials for discussions with patients and caregivers, which can also be printed and shared. Collectively, the integrated tools are positioned to streamline decision support during limited face‑to‑face time. The materials are intended to support treatment planning conversations.

“Healthcare providers today are working under a great deal of pressure, amplified by constantly changing guidelines, the discovery of new biomarkers and a rapidly evolving clinical trial environment. These integrated tools will grant care teams with quick, simplified access to resources that will enable them to maximize the impact of the short time they have with their patients,” said Tim Himes, Head of Product at Foundation Medicine.

“Additionally, for patients and caregivers, the flood of information that comes with cancer care can feel overwhelming. Using AI to distill the robust information delivered in our reports to help healthcare providers educate patients and families will bring increased clarity and comfort to the treatment planning process,” added Himes.
