Collaboration Aims to Broaden Access to NETosis-Linked Disease Testing

Q NETs H3.1 assay on the Sysmex platform. The collaboration follows the successful transfer of the Nu.Q NETs assay onto Sysmex’s system and now moves the program into an optimization phase for diseases associated with NETosis.

Volition’s Nu.Q NETs test is designed to detect markers associated with neutrophil extracellular traps, which are released during NETosis. This biological process has been linked to a broad range of disease states, including sepsis and other acute and chronic disorders. By adapting the assay to Sysmex’s platform, the companies aim to combine Volition’s epigenetics-based test technology with Sysmex’s expertise in in vitro diagnostics, product development, regulatory pathways, and analyzer deployment.

Sysmex has an established global presence in diagnostics for hemostasis and thrombosis, among other disease areas in which NETs may play an important role. Volition stated the collaboration is part of its strategy to out-license proprietary Nu.Q NETs testing to large diagnostics companies with worldwide reach and installed bases of analyzers. The company believes this approach could help broaden access to the assay while supporting clinical decision-making and personalized patient care.

The Nu.Q NETs assay may also offer value beyond initial diagnosis by enabling continued monitoring of a patient’s condition over time. Volition has estimated the total addressable market for the assay at USD 3.8 billion. The company said it sees a significant commercial opportunity for the test as evidence grows around NETosis-associated diseases and the need for accessible monitoring tools.
