Collaboration Advances Extracellular Vesicle-Based Tests for Neurodegenerative Diseases

NanoSomiX, Inc. More...

and Beckman Coulter Diagnostics announced a collaboration to explore the development of next-generation immunoassays for neurodegenerative diseases using extracellular vesicles (EVs). The effort builds on NanoSomiX’s focus on blood-based analytics using EVs, including those derived from brain tissue. The companies emphasize a shared interest in addressing the challenge of detecting low-abundance, brain-specific biomarkers in blood. NanoSomiX’s proprietary platform targets EVs derived from defined brain cell populations, including neurons and glial cells.

Brain-derived EVs can provide access to clinically meaningful signals from a small volume of blood. NanoSomiX has developed EV-based immunoassays that measure biomarkers isolated from neuron- and other brain cell–derived EVs. These assays are intended to support research into disease mechanisms, progression, and therapeutic response.

NanoSomiX reports that its EV-based immunoassay platforms have been developed, published, and shown to be compatible with high-throughput testing systems. The platform is positioned as a foundation for translational research and scalable immunoassay development. The company is also collaborating with academic and commercial partners on projects involving neuron-, astrocyte-, and oligodendrocyte-derived EVs to advance biomarker discovery and validation across neurological conditions and neuroinjury.

“EVs—particularly brain‑derived EVs—offer a non‑invasive way to access meaningful signals from the brain using a small volume of blood. NanoSomiX has developed EV‑based immunoassays that measure biomarkers from neuron‑ and other brain cell–derived EVs, supporting research into disease mechanisms, progression, and therapeutic response. We are excited to work with Beckman Coulter Diagnostics to help translate this scientific foundation toward scalable, automated immunoassay solutions for both research and clinical settings,” said Dr. Dennis Van Epps, VP, Scientific Affairs, NanoSomiX.
