New Tubes Designed for Medium Sample Volumes

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 03 Aug 2016
At the 2016 AACC annual meeting, Eppendorf (Hauppauge, NY, USA) will introduce a new 5 mL tube with a screw cap which fills the gap between existing tube formats and represents a novel option for working with medium–sized sample volumes.

The new 5.0 mL Tube will complement the application spectrum of sample processing in the medium volume range: in addition to sample processing, it can also be used for secure transport, long term storage at temperatures as low as -86 °C, and sample incubation at up to 100 °C. More...
In addition to a secure seal, the grooved and multi-surface side contours of the newly designed screw cap ensure a slip-free grip. To accommodate individual laboratory protocols, it is available in Eppendorf Quality, PCR clean, Sterile, and Eppendorf Biopur purity grades.

Features include an ergonomic snap cap for single-handed operation; a screw cap with flattened end and grooved sides to provide optimal grip and user-friendly handling; a high-quality and transparent polypropylene construct free of plasticizers, biocides, or mold release agents; safety and stability for centrifugation up to 25,000 g; a conical shape compatible with accessories for conical 15 mL tubes; and caps made of proprietary LoBind material for maximum recovery of valuable samples. The new 5.0 mL Tube with screw cap will be presented at AACC 2016.

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC; Washington, DC, USA) is an international scientific/medical society of over 8,000 clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists and more. The AACC annual meeting, which will be held this year from July 31st to August 4th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia (USA), features five days of educational sessions about scientific, clinical, technical and management challenges facing laboratory professionals, as well as the world’s largest Clinical Lab Expo.
