Automated Inoculation System Provides Accurate Dosing of MIC Plates

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 25 Jul 2011
An automated, inoculation delivery system provides faster, accurate dosing of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) plates for microbiology laboratories.

With a small-footprint and compact, user-friendly design, the Sensititre AIM automated inoculation delivery system is ideal for use directly on the benchtop or under a microbiology safety cabinet, providing flexible storage and accessibility and conserving valuable laboratory space. More...
It prevents missed wells and eliminates the need for repeat tests, improves laboratory workflow, and speeds results to clinicians.

The Sensititre AIM delivery system can be used with all Sensititre dried plates and quickly doses microtiter plates. The easy-to-use, icon-driven touch screen facilitates quick selection of dosing volumes and patterns for simple, intuitive operation.

TREK diagnostic systems' (Cleveland, OH, USA) Sensititre product line for susceptibility and identification testing enables labs to test US Food and Drug Administration (FDA; Silver Spring, MD, USA)-cleared antimicrobial drugs against a wide range of non-fastidious and fastidious bacteria and yeasts. This saves microbiology labs from having to use multiple off-line test procedures to obtain accurate susceptibility data.

The FDA cleared the TREK diagnostic systems-brand Sensititre AIM automated inoculation delivery system for in vitro diagnostics use in the United States. The AIM System has been used successfully in veterinary and pharmaceutical labs since its development. The AIM System is also CE-marked for sale outside the US.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (Waltham, MA, USA) has acquired TREK Diagnostic Systems, including blood culture, microorganism identification, and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) products, from Magellan Biosciences (Chelmsford, MA, USA). TREK Diagnostic Systems currently serves pharmaceutical and clinical laboratory markets and will be integrated into Thermo Fisher’s analytical technologies segment.
