Posted on 01 Apr 2010
A new polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) blend is suitable for applications in medical technology, including the manufacture of diagnostic equipment.

In addition to its excellent impact resistance, stiffness, dimensional and color stability, heat resistance and processing properties, the Bayblend M850XF product grade satisfies the biocompatibility requirements of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 10933 Part 1 as modified by the U.S. More...
Federal Drug Administration (FDA; Silver Springs, MD, USA). The new Bayblend grade can be sterilized by ethylene oxide (EtO), gamma radiation, or electron rays.

Bayer MaterialScience (Leverkusen, Germany) developed Bayblend M850XF, expanding its portfolio of PC/ABS. The product is particularly suitable for injection molding thin-walled components.

"Bayblend M850XF offers the balanced combination of processability and physical properties required for components used in medical and diagnostic equipment," explained Markus Krieter, an expert for applications in medical technology at Bayer MaterialScience.

Bayer MaterialScience is focused on the manufacture of high-tech polymer materials. It is a Bayer Group company.
