New Microplate Dispenser Streamlines Liquid Handling Tasks

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 21 Sep 2010
A new generation of microdispenser, capable of dispensing multiple reagents into multiple microplate types, is now available for biotech and life science researchers.

The new BioTek (Winooski, VT, USA) MultiFlo Microplate Dispenser offers a choice of either peristaltic pump or microprocessor controlled syringe drive technologies, and the researcher can purchase one channel now and add others in the future.

The Multiflo accommodates microplate types ranging from 6- to 1536-wells, and dispenses volumes of from 1 µL to 3 mL accurately and precisely. More...
BioTek's proprietary angled dispensing ensures compatibility with all dispense protocols including media exchanges with loosely adherent cell monolayers. For assays requiring minimum reagent usage, the MultiFlo's prime volume is less than one milliliter. A built-in priming trough is designed to allow both recovery of reagents or to send primed reagent directly to waste.

Due to its small footprint and base height of less than 20 cm, the MultiFlo readily fits on any laboratory bench or robotic system. It is easily integrated with the BioTek BioStack Microplate Stacker, allowing up to 75 plates to be dispensed automatically. Alternatively, robotic integration of the MultiFlo to third party automated systems is readily accomplished through BioTek's Liquid Handling Control Software. This software package permits the user to create dispense protocols either from a computer or by being downloaded to the onboard user interface.

"Microplate-based bulk dispensing can be complex, especially in an automated system,” said Jason Greene, BioTek product manager. "We specifically designed MultiFlo to streamline this process, providing more value through multitasking, and time savings.”
