Erba Mannheim (London, UK) launched its new electrolyte analyzer, EC 90 with maintenance-free electrodes in an all-in-one sensor cartridge, at MEDLAB 2020. Additionally, Erba launched new immunoassays, clinical chemistry, diabetes and hematology products designed to boost productivity of small and medium sized labs. The company also provided a preview of its NEXUS range of next generation total lab automation solutions.

The EC 90 directly measures Na+, Cl-, K+ and Ca2+ from whole blood, plasma, serum and pre-diluted urine using a sensor incorporating thick film technology. A "plug and play" sensor cartridge is integrated into a new reagent pack capable of performing up to 3,000 samples, with a market leading on-board lifetime of three months. No maintenance or cleaning of the pack is required, and waste is self-contained. The EC 90 can analyze samples in 35 seconds, with a typical throughput of 90 samples/hour, and has 35µL and 70µL sample volume measuring modes. Results can be given with a resolution of 0.1mmol/L for Na[+] and Cl-, 0.01mmol/L for K[+] and Ca[2+] and are reproducible with CV< 1%. Small and lightweight (337 x 273 x 422mm, < 8kg), the EC 90 comes with an 8.5-inch color touchscreen display, LIS connectivity, automatic calibration, two USB ports, on-board 24 column thermal printer and a serial port.

Alongside the EC 90, Erba launched the new HB715 automated desktop analyzer for measuring glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c, HbA1ab, HbA1c, HbF, HbA0, HbA2/E/D, HbS, HbC) and designed for ease of use and low-cost operation. Erba also launched its new ELAN 30s analyzer, a fully automated compact benchtop ELISA microstrip processor that can perform six different tests simultaneously, and Rapid Malaria and Dengue Tests with unique Dual Color Detection system. In hematology, the company launched the new ESL 30, a fully automated ESR testing solution that improves result quality, laboratory safety and efficiency in mid-sized labs at an affordable price. Alongside the new products, Erba presented the updated versions of its signature XL 200 and XL 640+ clinical chemistry analyzers.

Additionally, Erba provided a preview of its next generation NEXUS total lab automation system which will offer powerful, modular solutions using advanced imaging and artificial intelligence. The NEXUS IA immunoassay analyzer uses unique magnetic CLIA bead technology and extensive panels to deliver a reliable and affordable solution, while the Nexus H Infinity Hematology analyzer uses computer vision to actually 'see' the sample and provides advanced diagnostics by counting, staining, imaging and analyzing 1000's of cells in less than a minute.

"At MEDLAB ME, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to becoming a leading player in the IVD market. With NEXUS we offer a unique entry level system for Total Lab Automation, enabling labs to scale their business with higher automation. Also, by significantly strengthening our product portfolio for small and medium sized labs and growing our global customer base, we are well placed to achieve our ambition," said Romain Fournials, CCO of Erba Mannheim.
