Automatic Cell Counter Increases Productivity

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 05 Sep 2011
An automatic cell counter provides total counts of mammalian and other cells including a live to dead cells ratio all in one simple step.

The innovative autofocus technology and sophisticated image analysis algorithm produce accurate, consistent cells counts within 30 seconds and cell-counting precision is comparable to that obtained with a manual hemocytometer.

The TC10 Cell counter can count samples with or without Trypan blue dye solution. More...
The dye is added to the cell suspension, loaded on to a slide and inserted the TC10 counter, which automatically detects the presence of trypan blue in the sample. Along with a cell count, it accesses cell viability by the trypan blue dye exclusion test in 30 seconds. Various human and animal cells as well as protozoan parasites such as Entamoeba histolytica have all been counted on the TC10.

The TC10 is manufactured by Bio-Rad (Hercules, CA, USA) and is very adaptable for the enumeration of different cells. It is extremely accurate when counting cells that are 6 µm to 50 µm in diameter within the ranges of 5 × 104 to 1 × 107cells/mL. The counter uses disposable TC10 counting slides eliminating the need for set up, cleaning and maintenance. The dual sided counting slide provides counts for two separate samples or dilutions and each chamber only requires 10 µL, saving precious biological material. Results for 100 counts are stored in the TC10 counter and are easily recovered, as they are automatically time stamped. An image of the cells counted can be seen on the TC10 counter screen and the machine has the ability to zoom in on the image, which can be exported to via the USB port to a computer.
