Fujifilm Integrates Structured Reporting into Digital Pathology Workflow

FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation (Lexington, MA, USA) and mTuitive (Centerville, MA, USA) have formed a strategic partnership to integrate mTuitive’s structured pathology reporting platform with Fujifilm’s Synapse Pathology. More...

A comprehensive pathology PACS, Synapse Pathology streamlines case management through proprietary advances in image digitization. By connecting structured pathology reporting with digital pathology workflows, the collaboration aims to unify diagnostic data across pathology and imaging, accelerate decision-making, and support coordinated, evidence-based patient care.

The integrated workflow establishes a pathology-to-enterprise pipeline in which structured pathology reports—including CAP and Commission on Cancer-compliant synoptic data and biomarker information—automatically flow from mTuitive through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) into Synapse. By addressing the common problem of interdepartmental data silos, the approach is intended to enable real-time collaboration among radiologists, oncologists, and pathologists. The solution respects the LIS as the system of record while synchronizing finalized content to the enterprise imaging environment.

Key operational advantages include the automatic availability of final pathology reports in Synapse after sign-out, helping ensure that care teams are working from the same structured information. During tumor boards, these reports can be viewed alongside radiology images to support more cohesive decision-making. The integration is also designed to reduce duplicative data entry and help organizations gain more value from existing systems without adding new platforms. In addition, the resulting structured data can support cancer registries, clinical analytics, research, and artificial intelligence applications.

“By integrating mTuitive's structured reporting capabilities with Synapse's Pathology, our robust, open-cloud accessible platform, we're empowering healthcare teams with the unified diagnostic insights they need to deliver faster, more coordinated patient care,” said Dr. Mark Lloyd, Vice President of Digital Pathology, FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation.

“As we deepen our alliance with Fujifilm, we are intentionally building an ecosystem where imaging, pathology, and informatics work in concert to give care teams faster, more confident answers for their patients,” stated Hans Wernke, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at mTuitive.
