Abbott Diagnostics (Lake Bluff, IL, USA) displayed its leading-edge technology at the 2021 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo with demonstrations of its innovative systems, automation and informatics. More...

Abbott’s innovative solutions on display at AACC 2021 included Alinity Systems, total laboratory automation and AliniQ Informatics and Professional Services. The company also showed how labs can create an agile strategy with The Abbott Transformation System and the invaluable answers that it placed in the hands of doctors, clinicians and caregivers at the Point of Care.

Abbott’s Alinity family comprises next-generation systems across immunoassay, clinical chemistry, point of care, hematology, blood and plasma screening and molecular diagnostics. On display at the event were the Alinity ci-series integrated clinical chemistry & immunoassay system, Alinity c clinical chemistry system, ALINITY I immunoassay system, and the Alinity m fully integrated, automated, high-throughput molecular diagnostics analyzer. Each Alinity system includes a number of features to help institutions, clinicians and laboratorians better navigate through a pressure-packed health care environment. Designed with universal, intuitive interfaces as well as common software and hardware, Abbott's Alinity systems have the ability to work together, providing greater capacity and simplifying the user experience. Several of the platforms are designed to run more tests in less space, generate test results faster and minimize human errors.

At AACC 2021, Abbott also highlighted its synergistic suite of automation and high volume end-to-end solutions that deliver seamless productivity across the entire laboratory. This included the ACCELERATOR a3600 total laboratory automation system that provides the power and flexibility to meet the needs of the laboratory, both today and in the future. Combined with informatics and lean principles, the ACCELERATOR a3600 maximizes efficiency by providing consistent, predictable sample management and helps improve patient care by minimizing opportunities for error.

Additionally, Abbott demonstrated how its AlinIQ suite of professional services can help labs uncover intelligent insights from their laboratory data and discover greater operational productivity with existing resources. For instance, Abbott’s The AlinIQ Always On services deliver predictive alerts to labs, enabling the detection and prevention of instrument downtime up to three days in advance. The AlinIQ AMS (Analyzer Management System) provides labs and hospital networks the ability to integrate different software systems into a single standardized platform to optimize sample processing time, workflow efficiency and quality results. Similarly, the AlinIQ BIS (Business Intelligence System) provides the tools to optimize throughput and capacity of existing systems to help labs absorb volume increases without additional budget. By delivering intelligent insights, AlinIQ BIS helps labs improve operations and operational expense performance and communicate the lab's value to the broader health care organization. The AlinIQ IMS (Inventory Management System), which combines innovative RFID technology and streamlined process consulting, allows labs to get ahead of operational needs, helping avoid shortages of critical items, reduce waste and time taken for manual processes.
