Posted on 12 May 2009
New lab chemistry and hematology analyzers were launched at Mindray (Shenzen, China) product conference in April 2009, which took place in Shenzen, China. More...
The products are intended to bridge the capabilities gap between mid- to high-output level labs.

The new BC-5300 and BC-5380 hematology analyzers are compact, economical, and free of daily maintenance. The analyzers require a 20-μl sampling volume, offer 5-part differentiation, and 27 measured parameters. Both analyzers use the impedance method for WBC, RBC, and PLT counting; feature semiconductor laser scatter combined with chemical dye method, and advanced flow cytometry. Also featured are whole blood and diluted counting modes, and the capability to flag abnormal samples. The analyzers process at a rate of 60 samples per hour. The BC-5380 features a 30-sample capacity autoloader and random access for improved walkaway automation, and close tube sampling functions. Throughput for closed tube sampling is 50 samples per hour.

The hematology analyzers include a local area network (LAN) port, come with user-friendly software featuring a variety of customizations for operations and reporting, have a data storage capacity for 40,000 results including graphical information, and support health level 7 (HL7) protocol.

The BS-380 Chemistry analyzer is a strategically positioned addition to the BS- family, has fully automated, discrete, random access functions for routine, STAT, urine and homogenous immunoassays. The chemistry analyzer can process 300 samples per hour.

The analyzer repertoire includes tests for proteins and immunoglobulins, nonprotein nitrogen, lipids, glucide, enzymes, electroloytes and minerals, and others. The sample tray has 75 positions, sample volume ranges from 2-45 μl stepped by 0.1 μl. The device comes with an optional internal barcode reader for sample and reagent programming. Reagents are held in a 2-8 ˚C-refrigerated compartment with 60 positions. The system features automatic dilution of abnormal samples, automatic probes cleaning, and 8-step autowashing. The optical system consists of Halogen-Tungsten lamp, with reversed optics grating photometry, and a range of 12 wavelengths from 340-800 nm.

The BS-380 includes support for RS-232 and bidirectional laboratory information systems (LIS) interface. The system displays real-time running status, and monitors reactions in real time.

According to the company, these products are in part the result of being responsive to customer feedback. Mr. Jie Liu, chief operating officer (COO) of Mindray said, "Mindray will continue to develop new products in the in vitro diagnostics field through continued focus on research and development.” "These [new] products elevate Mindray to the rank of a global player in the in vitro diagnostics field,” Mr. Liu added.

Mindray Medical International Limited is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of medical devices in China with a significant and growing presence worldwide. Mindray offers a broad range of products across three primary business segments: patient monitoring devices, diagnostic laboratory instruments, and ultrasound imaging systems.
