European Genomic Resource Center to Offer High-Throughput Gene Expression Profiling

A major European provider of genomic research and training services has announced a major expansion into the area of high-throughput gene expression profiling.

TATAA Biocenter (Gothenburg, Sweden) has established a reputation as one of Europe´s leading providers of genomic services using quantitative real-time polymerase PCR (qPCR). More...
Real-time PCR is a modification of standard PCR and provides greater accuracy in applications such as the quantification of gene expression, proteins, viruses, and bacteria in human, food, and soil samples, and for analysis of mutations (SNP), detection of gene-modified organisms (GMO), and forensic testing. The process involves cycles of alternative heating and cooling of a small sample containing the nucleic acid. Throughout this process, copies of targeted DNA molecules are produced and the amount of the amplified DNA is measured during the PCR process in real-time. This ensures very accurate and precise quantification of the nucleic acid.

Adding to its catalog of research and training options, TATAA Biocenter has recently announced the introduction of high-throughput gene expression profiling using Roche´s (Basel, Switzerland) RealTime Ready Custom qPCR Assays and Panels. An example is the LightCycler 1536 System, which utilizes a proprietary 1536-well plate and is capable of performing high-speed, qPCR-based DNA/RNA analyses in an array-like format.

“The number of genes researchers characterize in a given sample is steadily increasing. In response to this demand, we now offer high-throughput profiling services in a complete workflow from nucleic acid extraction, gene profiling, and data mining,” said Dr. Mikael Kubista, CEO of TATAA Biocenter. “After extensive testing and validation of the various offerings on the market, we selected the Roche RealTime Ready platform for its excellent performance combined with a workflow with exceedingly user-friendly wizard-based data mining.”
