New Real-Time PCR System Aimed at the Modest Budget

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 12 Aug 2010
A novel real-time PCR platform designed to extend access to this technology to the individual bench scientist has been released to the market. More...

The Illumina (San Diego, CA, USA) Eco Real-Time PCR System offers true four-color multiplexing and high-resolution melting analysis (HRM). The instrument uses standard real-time PCR chemistries and has the ability to perform fast PCR. In addition, the systems boasts industry leading data quality and reproducibility with well-to-well uniformity five times that of other commercially-available, costly real-time PCR systems.

The instrument sports a compact (approximately one cubic foot) design to conserve valuable bench space and a 48-well plate format with an intuitive, icon-driven software interface with smart default protocols. With a price tag of $13,900, the system is deemed accessible to individual researchers around the world.

"We are excited to launch the Eco Real-Time PCR System, which we believe will set new standards for performance, simplicity and affordability," said Christian Henry, senior vice president and general manager, life sciences at Illumina. "The system will enable us to address a broad range of applications and markets and is highly complementary to our industry-leading sequencing and array platforms.”

New Liquid Biopsy Workflow Maximizes Tumor Signals from Limited Blood Samples

Liquid biopsy seeks to detect tumor-derived signals from small blood samples, but circulating cell-free DNA is scarce and heterogeneous, limiting sensitivity. Combining complementary signals such as methylation,... Read more
