Preclinical Imaging System Extracts Accurate Data Out of Images

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 15 Nov 2007
A flexible and open system, a new preclinical imaging workspace enables researchers to extract statistically sound information out of images more accurately so that they can interpret research data with effectiveness and improve the accuracy of their research results. More...

The Imalytics Workspace, developed by Philips Medical Systems (Eindhoven, The Netherlands), provides a comprehensive solution for imaging analytics, which includes complete image processing, quantification, kinetic modeling, and visualization tools dedicated to preclinical imaging.

The system also features project-oriented and hypothesis-driven workflow that supports four modalities: positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT), single photon emission tomography (SPECT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and is based on an expandable platform to accommodate current and future preclinical imaging needs. The Workspace can be used in conjunction with Philips' Mosaic HP and NanoSPECT/CT products for centralized preclinical processing.

The system was presented at this year's annual congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) ‘07 in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2007. Also presented at the meeting was the Philips Mosaic HP, equipped with high-performance lutetium yttrium silicon dioxide (LYSO) detector technology. This preclinical PET system provides flexibility and efficiency for a wide range of preclinical research applications in oncology, cardiology and neurology.

Mosaic HP's extra-large imaging bore and long axial field of view allows imaging of a variety of research subjects and bio-distribution studies on a whole subject in a single scan. At EANM ‘07, Philips is launching an upgrade for the Mosaic HP that will add several new functionalities and enhancements. These include a cardiac gating application in list mode, CT attenuation correction, an advanced subject handling system compatible with the NanoSPECT/CT system with integrated subject temperature control and connectivity to the new Imalytics Workspace.

Completing Philips' flexible and scaleable tri-modality preclinical product range is Bioscan's NanoSPECT/CT system. The NanoSPECT/CT helps accelerate the discovery of new targeted-biomarkers and the development and validation of new molecular diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The system enables fast, dynamic SPECT acquisitions with high temporal resolution and dual-isotope imaging with ultra-high system sensitivity and subhalf-millimeter resolution with its patented multiplexed multi-pinhole imaging technology and broadband detectors.
