Integrated Workstation Combines Immunoassay Systems and Chemistry Analyzers

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 29 Jun 2007
An integrated workstation combines immunoassay testing and clinical chemistry in one instrument.

The closed-tube aliquotting (CTA) platform serves as a single point of entry for the integrated system. More...
Samples are automatically aliquoted and routed through immunologic and chemical test platforms without the need to split samples or cap and re-cap tubes. The immunoassay system combines chemiluminescence technology with a large menu of tests for cancer management, cardiac disease, thyroid function, and other critical diagnostic assays. The routine chemistry tests include glucose, cholesterol, electrolytes, triglycerides, and proteins.

Integrated systems, such as Beckman Coulter's (Fullerton, CA, USA; www.beckmancoulter.com) new DxC 880i Synchron Access Clinical System, provide consolidation of chemistry and immunoassay testing to improve turnaround times and lab efficiency; identical reagents and consistent results in the Unicel family of instruments; system software that is similar across all testing platforms; and common data management to organize and track information. The DxC 880i was launched at the EuroMedLab conference in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in June 2007. The instrument was developed for high-throughput laboratories.

Built with the same technology used in the DxI 800, the DxI 800i was designed to reduce costs and optimize labor resources. The UniCel family of systems is flexible, productive, and safe. Laboratories using DxC 800 and DxI 800 will be able to upgrade the analyzers in the DxC 880i in 2008. More cross-platform configurations are being developed.
