Varian Acquires IonSpec

By Biotechdaily staff writers

Varian, Inc. More...
(Palo Alto, CA, USA) has acquired IonSpec Corp. (Lake Forest, CA, USA) for approximately U.S.$16 million.

Varian said the acquisitions of IonSpec's Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS) technology represents a significant step toward expanding its information-rich detection (IRD) portfolio.

Varian expects the acquisition to increase its development of growing life science applications, specifically the study of proteins, nucleic acids, and drug metabolites. The initial cash purchase price includes paying down assumed debt and an opportunity for an additional payment if FTMS products reach specified financial targets over a three-year period.

FTMS instruments are used in laboratories worldwide to determine the function and structural characterization of proteins and other biomolecules in various biologic systems.

Machine Learning Model Uses DNA Methylation to Predict Tumor Origin in Cancers of Unknown Primary

Cancers of unknown primary (CUP) are metastatic malignancies in which the primary site cannot be identified, complicating treatment selection. Many patients consequently receive broad, nonspecific chemotherapy... Read more
