Multimode Microplate Reader

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 19 Dec 2005
A new filter-based microplate reader that measures five key technologies is designed to carry out a wide range of microplate assays.

Called the Appliskan, the reader can handle a range of assays, from basic absorbance to advanced dual-label assays. More...
It can read six-well to 384-well plates and offers the added advantage of onboard shaking and incubation. Together with optional dispensers, the Appliskan is an ideal instrument for assay types such cytotoxicity, DNA analysis, immunoassays, and multiplexing and protein activity.

The Appliskan measures by using five key technologies: luminescence, absorbance, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, and time-resolved fluorescence. The system has multiple measurement modes: multi-wavelength, end point, and kinetic, so all assay protocols can be carried out with extreme ease on just one instrument. To further enhance laboratory integration and automation, the Appliskan is designed to work with robotic systems such as the RapidStak microplate stacker of Thermo Electron Corp. (Milford, MA, USA), which developed the Appliskan.

The Skanit software used with the Appliskan provides an intuitive user interface with a step-list functionality, which makes assay setup and instrument control both easy and flexible. The software also provides data handling and report-formatting capabilities, saving valuable time. All in all, the Appliskan is a versatile reader designed to fit into even the busiest laboratory.

Machine Learning Model Uses DNA Methylation to Predict Tumor Origin in Cancers of Unknown Primary

Cancers of unknown primary (CUP) are metastatic malignancies in which the primary site cannot be identified, complicating treatment selection. Many patients consequently receive broad, nonspecific chemotherapy... Read more
