Updated Digital Pathology Platform Expands AI Integration for Cancer Diagnosis

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 15 Oct 2026

Digital pathology is reshaping how laboratories manage case review, image analysis, and collaboration. More...

As diagnostic workflows become more complex, pathology teams need platforms that can support digital slide evaluation while connecting to emerging artificial intelligence tools. A newly launched software release now adds expanded AI capabilities and workflow enhancements for digital pathology environments.

FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation has launched Synapse Pathology v3.0, a major update to its digital pathology platform. The release includes more than 50 new features and functions intended to improve navigation, evaluation, measurement, classification, and organization of digital pathology cases. New capabilities include Smart Worklist sorting, new navigation devices, slide tagging, new measurement tools, and enhancements to collaboration tools.

The platform expands support for artificial intelligence by enhancing Fujifilm’s proprietary TissueSync and TissueDirect algorithms. Synapse Pathology v3.0 also introduces Synapse AI Orchestrator, a fully automated distribution hub designed to connect Synapse Pathology with compatible third-party AI applications. The system is intended to streamline information exchange between the platform and specialized AI tools, including Ibex’s AI-powered solutions for malignancy detection in prostate, breast, and gastric specimens.

Fujifilm will also introduce Synapse Pathology AI Foundry, a pathology-specific artificial intelligence foundation model trained using millions of pathology images. The foundation model is for research use only and is intended to support a range of current and future pathology AI capabilities. At Pathology Visions 2026, Fujifilm will showcase a foundation model for screening in pathology that is designed to identify and distinguish normal, inflammatory, atypical, and malignant conditions in gastrointestinal specimens.

The company will showcase Synapse Pathology v3.0 at Pathology Visions 2026, taking place October 17–20 in San Diego. Fujifilm will also present a scientific poster titled “From Diagnostic to Prognostic Risk Scores in GI Cancers: Using AI in H&E WSIs for Clinical Insights” on October 16. Additional booth sessions will address whole slide image analysis, agentic AI, and the development of large language models for pathology.

“Digital pathology is evolving rapidly, and our customers are looking for solutions that not only help improve the experience of working in a digital environment today, but also prepare them for the AI-driven workflows of tomorrow,” said Dr. Mark Lloyd, vice president of digital pathology, FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation.

“Synapse Pathology v3.0 represents a major step forward for our platform. We listened closely to our customers and translated their feedback into meaningful enhancements across navigation, measurement, classification and organization, while simultaneously creating new opportunities to bring AI directly into the pathology workflow,” added Dr. Lloyd.
