Posted on 01 Feb 2012
A rapid visual assay has been developed for the detection of Helicobacter pylori in fecal samples.

Called Pyloritop Ag+, the assay is an immunochromatogenic test that provides clinical laboratories with a cost-effective method to help meet current guidelines for the detection and treatment of H. More...
pylori.

Pyloritop Ag+ provides a quick, convenient, and noninvasive means for detecting H. pylori infection. Results are available in five minutes and should help clinicians avoid unnecessary, costly, and perhaps harmful treatments.

Released by Pro-Lab Diagnostics (Bromborough, United Kingdom), the new assay is based on robust lateral flow technology. Individually wrapped Pyloritop Ag+ test cassettes are supplied with a sample collection tube for maximum convenience, and can be safely stored at room temperature for up to 12 months, providing a practical solution for H. pylori testing.

Infection with H. pylori is estimated to affect 40%-50 % of the population, and can have a significant impact on the treatment of patients with gastroduodenal diseases, gastric cancers, and unexplained iron deficiency anemia.

Mark Reed, general manager of Pro-Lab Diagnostics, commented: “Pyloritop Ag+ is the latest addition to Pro-Lab Diagnostics’ portfolio of immunodiagnostic products [….]. This simple test offers clear, qualitative results in just a few minutes, helping to streamline laboratory workflows for better patient care.”
