Sequencing Service for Bacterial Genomics

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 29 May 2002
A new service that will sequence and annotate bacterial disease genomes has been announced by Genome Express (Grenoble, France). More...
An understanding of bacterial genes is needed for developing drugs that can control antibiotic resistance, resurgent diseases (tuberculosis), toxic infections (salmonella, listeria), and nosocomial infections.

Genome Express believes it is the only European firm offering this type of comprehensive and integrated service. The service is based on the company's capability in four areas: constructing DNA libraries with high throughput screening, finishing and assembly, annotation, and proteomics data. Genome express is a member of GenoStar, the bioinformatics consortium for exploratory genomics, and has access to France's national proteomics database. The new service gives customers a single point of contact for outsourcing, making their R&D process easier and faster while minimizing confidentiality risks.

"This new service will offer the highest quality and the best performance of any one-stop shop in Europe for the complete integrated sequencing and annotation of bacterial genomes,” said Yves Laurent, CEO of Genome Express. "The objective is to accelerate significantly the time to discovery and to enable customers to develop and bring to market new therapeutics and processes.”
