Distribution Alliance for Anticoagulation Testing

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Dec 2001
A distribution agreement will allow International Technidyne Corp. More...
(ITC, Edison, NJ, USA) to exclusively distribute the Protime 3 microcoagulation system of Instrumentation Laboratory SPA (IL, Barcelona, Spain) in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg and the United Kingdom.

ITC will market Protime 3 to clinics, hospitals, and to doctors for professional in-office use or at-home use by patients. The Protime 3 system measures prothrombin time, the internationally accepted standard for monitoring oral anticoagulation therapy. Maintaining proper prothrombin time is critical for patients taking oral anticoagulant medications to assure that their medication blood levels remain at correct therapeutic levels. If test results show that drug blood levels are outside the desired range, the dosage can be changed immediately, without having to wait for up to 48 hours for results from a central laboratory.

The Protime 3 system comprises a small, battery-powered instrument and a disposable cuvette. Only a single drop of blood from a fingerstick is needed to perform a test, and the system provides results in minutes. Built-in quality controls help patients and health-care providers know it is working properly.

The binding of these antibodies alters the distribution of electrical charges on the electrode surface. The sensor then translates this variation into a measurable capacitance signal (photo courtesy of Gabriella Soares / IFSC-USP)

Rapid Biosensor Detects Pancreatic Cancer Biomarker for Early Detection

Pancreatic cancer is frequently identified only after it has progressed because early disease is typically asymptomatic, and survival remains extremely poor once advanced. Conventional laboratory assays... Read more
