Monoclonal Antibodies Specific to Mycoplasma genitalium Available

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 12 Jul 2012
A set of four monoclonal antibodies that are specific to Mycoplasma genitalium has been released. More...
They do not cross react with other Mycloplasmas and/or related bacteria.

The antibodies function in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and indirect fluorescence assay (IFA) and are available for research and assay development.

Mycoplasma genitalium is a small bacterium without a cell wall. It resides in the human urogenital tract where it obtains its nutrients and causes urethritis in males and females as well as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in females.

ViroStat (Portland, ME, USA) released the four monoclonal antibodies. These may be used for assay development but meanwhile they are not yet available for diagnostic purposes. The data sheet, including pricing, for the antibodies can be found at the ViroStat website.

ViroStat, Inc. is a primary manufacturer of infectious disease antigens and antibodies. These include high affinity antibodies to Flu A, Flu B, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Streptococcus A for use in rapid lateral flow devices as well as antibodies to food-borne pathogens and toxins. Also, many specificities to Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are available for use in antiviral high-throughput screening assays (HTS) assays.
