Mouse and Rat Expression Arrays for Researchers

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 27 Mar 2003
Rat and mouse genome information now available on a microarray platform will enable researchers to comprehensively and accurately assay the entire genomes.

The Mouse Expression Set and the Rat Expression Set are available on the GeneChip microarray platform of Affymetrix, Inc. More...
(Santa Clara, CA, USA) and share the same advantages as the company's Human Genome Set. The Mouse Expression Set covers more than 39,000 transcripts, including more than 34,000 well-substantiated mouse genes from leading mouse genome databases. The Rat Expression Set represents more than 30,200 transcripts, including 28,000 well-substantiated rat genes from leading rat genome databases.

Affymetrix leveraged data from past genome assemblies to evaluate the accuracy of sequence information from public source databases, such as GenBank and RefSeq. Cross-checking sequence information helps ensure that customers get the highest quality array design. All probe sets were mapped back to the most recent builds of each genome. Each array in each set contains a replicate group of probe sets for 100 maintenance genes, providing researchers with additional control sequences to normalize and scale data prior to performing data comparisons.

"These content-rich mouse and rat sets, along with our other gold standard expression products, will give researchers access to the industry's most powerful family of expression arrays,” said Elizabeth Kerr, Ph.D., senior marketing director of gene expression at Affymetrix.

The binding of these antibodies alters the distribution of electrical charges on the electrode surface. The sensor then translates this variation into a measurable capacitance signal (photo courtesy of Gabriella Soares / IFSC-USP)

Rapid Biosensor Detects Pancreatic Cancer Biomarker for Early Detection

Pancreatic cancer is frequently identified only after it has progressed because early disease is typically asymptomatic, and survival remains extremely poor once advanced. Conventional laboratory assays... Read more
