Online Sequencing Resource Unveiled

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 06 Apr 2004
A free, online resource has been established to allow both researchers and the general public to obtain updates on the status of sequencing projects for animal, plant, and other eukaryotic genomes.

The new site, maintained by the International Sequencing Consortium, is under the auspices of the [U.S.] National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) (Bethesda, MD, USA). More...
The International Sequencing Consortium (ISC) was established to provide a forum for genomic sequencing groups and their funding agencies to share information, coordinate research efforts, and address common issues raised by genomic sequencing, such as data release and data quality. Members of the ISC include the large-scale, high throughput sequencing centers and their funding agencies that have agreed to continue the generation of publicly available sequence data for unrestricted use by the research community.

The site, which can be accessed at www.intlgenome.org, includes timetables for completion of various sequencing projects, description of the strategies being employed, and links to sites maintained by the sequencing bodies, funding agencies, and DNA database suppositories.
