Flow Cytometry Kits Rapidly Assess Chemokine Receptors

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 18 Nov 2008
Eleven new flow cytometry kits for chemokine receptor quantification have become available. More...
They provide rapid, sensitive assessments in various cell types.

Chemokines play critical roles in a number of cellular processes. Chemokines are involved in leukocyte trafficking and activation; they are also widely expressed on immune system cells, and they can serve as vital indicators of autoimmune disorders and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections.

The FlowCellect chemokine-receptor surface-expression-quantification kits are the first flow cytometry kits of their kind. Supplied by Millipore Corp. (Billerica, MA, USA), these kits and six others for stem cell research introduced on October 15, 2008, are optimized on EasyCyte Guava (Hayward, CA, USA) flow cytometry systems as part of Millipore's long-term partnership with Guava Technologies.

Jason Whalley, senior product manager for cell biology at Millipore explained, "Rapid assessments of chemokine receptor expression can be used in many applications, including research on infectious disease and inflammation. As a plus, the level of expression can be quantified by comparing signals from positive and negative cells, which are included in the assay kits. This way, researchers can avoid the hazard and expense of performing radioligand-binding assays.

Millipore is a life science leader providing cutting-edge technologies, tools, and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutic manufacturing.
