Instrument Maximizes Colony Isolation and Eliminates Cross-Contamination

A fully automated system processes up to 300 microbiology plates per hour, standardizing routine agar plate inoculation and offering fast turnaround times with improved traceability. More...

Dubbed Previ Isola, the instrument maximizes colony isolation and eliminates cross-contamination, streamlining laboratory workflows to save time and free staff for other tasks. The system features streaking technology, which maximizes colony isolation through pressure-controlled contact with the agar surface during inoculation, and uses the same quantity of inoculate every time to standardize results.

The automated specimen and agar plate-management system offer clinical laboratories flexibility for routine processing of samples. It is particularly suited to high-throughput applications where negative results are prevalent, such as MRSA or urine specimen screening.

A 2010 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) was presented to BioMérieux for the Previ Isola, highlighting the automated media streaker's breakthrough technology, which has revolutionized front-end media processing tasks. The award was based on the Previ Isola's design and engineering features including new use of materials, improvements to healthcare delivery, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges to better meet clinical objectives.
