Veracyte Acquisition Expands Urine-Based Bladder Cancer Monitoring Capabilities

has acquired Convergent Genomics, expanding its urology diagnostics offerings with the company’s UroAmp platform and proprietary urinary tumor DNA (utDNA) technology. UroAmp has been clinically validated for therapy-response monitoring and post-treatment surveillance in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The platform complements Veracyte’s existing Decipher Bladder and TrueMRD tests, bringing together insights from urine, tissue, and blood to support clinical decision-making across the bladder cancer care continuum.

UroAmp analyzes tumor-derived genomic information present in urine, leveraging the biologic proximity of the specimen to NMIBC lesions. Because NMIBC may shed only limited tumor DNA into the bloodstream, prioritizing urine as the analyte can improve access to relevant genomic signals for decision support. By characterizing urinary tumor genomics, the platform is intended to inform treatment selection and enable longitudinal monitoring throughout follow-up.

The evidence base cited for UroAmp includes nine peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 scientific posters and abstracts. In the multicenter, prospective RUMBLE clinical validation study published in The Journal of Urology, patients who were clinically negative after induction Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) treatment but utDNA-positive had a 12-month recurrence-free survival rate of 25%, compared with 91% among utDNA-negative patients. These data underscore the potential of utDNA status to stratify recurrence risk after induction therapy.

Veracyte said its initial UroAmp-based test will be intended to determine whether patients who have completed induction BCG are likely to benefit from maintenance treatment, with commercialization expected in late 2028, subject to reimbursement timelines. The company also plans to expand use of the platform to intravesical maintenance therapy monitoring and surveillance following treatment with curative intent. Veracyte disclosed $150 million in upfront cash consideration for the acquisition, with up to $30 million in additional cash tied to reimbursement-related milestones.
