Purchase Agreement Melds Cellular Imaging and Cell Analysis Technologies

A melding of cellular imaging and cell analysis technologies will give life scientists a clearer view into the structure and behavior of live and fixed cells.

The medical imaging giant GE Healthcare (Little Chalfont, United Kingdom)--a US$16 billion company employing more than 46,000 people--recently announced the acquisition of Applied Precision (Issaquah, WA, USA). More...
Applied Precision, which develops and manufactures high-resolution and super-resolution microscopy instruments with accompanying software and data visualization tools, has 130 employees and had estimated 2010 revenues of approximately $37 million.

Applied Precision's proprietary technologies are complementary to GE Healthcare's IN Cell Analyzer Systems, which are used for high-throughput subcellular analysis in cell biology research. Kieran Murphy, president and CEO of GE Healthcare Life Sciences, said, "Applied Precision is a company with a strong reputation for innovation and is a great strategic fit with our cell technologies business. The combination of GE Healthcare's expertise in cell science together with the great talent of the team at Applied Precision will help us drive development of new technologies and create an extensive offering across the full spectrum of cell biology research."
