Comprehensive Human Genome Microarray for Drug Discovery

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 03 Jul 2003
A comprehensive two-microarray set includes more than 36,000 genes and transcripts, providing up-to-date genome coverage for gene expression analysis in drug discovery and disease research.

The set includes the new Human 1B Oligo Microarray Kit of Agilent Technologies (Palo Alto, CA, USA; www.agilent.com) and the company's existing 1A Oligo Microarray Kit. More...
These 60-mer oligo microarrays deliver up to eight times greater sensitivity than 25-mer formats, states the company. Each microarray is designed with a customizable region with open feature spots that allow researchers to add their own proprietary information or newly defined genes.

The 1B Oligo includes 19,000 probes with a focus on rarer human genes obtained from the LifeSeq Foundation database of Incyte Corp. (Palo Alto, CA, USA). Both microarrays contain comprehensive annotation, enabling customers to access information from public sequence databases or Incyte LifeSeq databases for additional bioinformatics data about the genes.

"All of our customers have switched from the 25-mer to the 60-mer format. We believe we are rapidly gaining market share in the microarray market due to the high sensitivity of our 60-mer microarrays, the flexibility of our printing technology, and the openness of our platform,” said Barney Saunders, vice president and general manager of Agilent's BioResearch Solutions unit.

The binding of these antibodies alters the distribution of electrical charges on the electrode surface. The sensor then translates this variation into a measurable capacitance signal (photo courtesy of Gabriella Soares / IFSC-USP)

Rapid Biosensor Detects Pancreatic Cancer Biomarker for Early Detection

Pancreatic cancer is frequently identified only after it has progressed because early disease is typically asymptomatic, and survival remains extremely poor once advanced. Conventional laboratory assays... Read more
