Combined Data Management System for Drug Discovery

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 05 Mar 2003
A new data management system for use by pharmaceutical researchers is the result of a collaboration between IBM (White Plains, NY) and Science Factory GmbH (Cologne, Germany). More...
The companies are combining IBM's Discovery Link data integration technology with the workflow software uberTool from the Science Factory.

DiscoveryLink enables scientists to efficiently perform complex queries against a broad range of different data. Recognizing the dynamic nature of life sciences data, DiscoveryLink leaves the original data and its underlying structure intact while delivering results in a consolidated, consistent format. The uberTool of Science Factory is a software system for the integration and analysis of molecular biologic data. The system provides scientists with more than 200 types of bioinformatic methods and enables access to public biologic databases and proprietary data. Using an integrated programming language, users can easily extend the core functions.

The combined technologies from both companies will enable scientists to work with a diverse range of data sources and file types, including text, images, numeric files, and relational databases.

"The combination of DiscoveryLink and uberTool software will boost the ongoing in-house research efforts of pharmaceutical companies and put the power of information processing in the hands of their researchers,” said Olav Zimmermann, director of customer relations, Science Factory.
