Joint Project to Develop Database of Annotated Proteins

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 20 Feb 2003
Two companies have joined forces to develop and market a new database that integrates protein sequence, structure, and annotation data. More...
They are Confirmant (Abingdon, UK) and Accelrys, Inc. (San Diego, CA; USA).

Under the terms of their agreement, Confirmant will license the GeneAtlas software of Accelrys and use it to annotate the function of protein sequences contained in The Protein Atlas of the Human Genome, Confimant's comprehensive database of proteins that can be directly mapped back to the human genome. The new database will be marketed by both companies as a complementary and valuable addition to the Protein Atlas.

"We are pleased to be working with Accelrys to supply scientists with an unambiguous protein-centric view of the human genome,” said David Palmer, CEO of Confirmant. "We believe the combination of our extensive proteomic data with Accelry's annotation tools will be extremely powerful in helping scientists develop new therapeutic and diagnostic products.”
