Cell Analyzer for High-Content Screening

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 23 Oct 2002
A new cell Analyzer, called Opera, provides fast high-content analysis of drug activity with subcellular resolution. More...
The benchtop device was presented at the conference of the Society for Biomolecular Screening in the Hague (The Netherlands).

The device combines the high resolution of confocal laser scanning microscopy with the speed of ultra-high throughput performance (> 200,000 images per day). Strictly confocal imaging, variable magnification using different lenses, automated supply of immersion water, and an integrated fast autofocus system guarantee maximum resolution and lowest background, says the developer, Evotec Technologies GmbH (Hamburg, Germany). Imaging software provides online evaluation for a wide range of applications. The open structure of the software is intended to help scientists design new assays for their own applications.

"The unmatched speed and exceptional data quality offer a smart solution for all assay development, screening, and high-throughput biology laboratories,” said Dr. Carsten Claussen, CEO of Evotec, a subsidiary of Evotec OAI AG. The Opera has been integrated into the EVOscreen Mark III screening platform of Evotec OAI and GlaxoSmithKline.
