Alliance to Develop New Technologies in Proteomics

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 13 Sep 2002
A collaboration to develop new technologies and applications in proteomics has been announced by Applied Biosystems, Inc. More...
(Foster City, CA, USA) and the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB, Seattle, WA, USA), a nonprofit research institute.

ISB intends to use the proteomics analyzer with TOF/TOF optics and the ICATa reagent technology of Applied Biosystems as major platforms in studying the dynamics of complex biologic systems in order to indentify strategies for preventing disease. The collaboration will focus on the development of more-effective ways to analyze proteins in the pathways that comprise complex biologic systems by using mass spectrometry chemical tagging, and bioinformatics. The effort will combine Applied Biosystems' expertise in the development and application of mass spectrometry, chemistry, and software to advanced proteomics workflows with ISB expertise in systems biology.

"Advancements in technology are providing new opportunities to understand complex systems and networks responsible for important biologic functions,” said Michael W. Hunkapiller, Ph.D., president of Applied Biosystems.
