Fast, Economical System for SNP Analysis

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 24 May 2002
A new system based on Pyrosequencing technology is designed to reduce the cost of analyzing single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and mutations.

The automated system (PSQ HS 96A) can analyze more than 10,000 SNP and mutation samples within 24 hours. More...
A sensitive light detector monitors Pyrosequencing reactions, minimizing the amount of sample and reagent needed per assay and thereby reducing the cost. The system has the ability to perform multiplex genotyping, increasing productivity. Integrated robotics and a ten-plate stacker deliver up to two hours of unattended operation. System capabilities also include the analysis of multiple SNPs on a short stretch of DNA and tri- and tetra-allelic polymorphisms.

The Pyrosequencing technology, a simple-to-use DNA sequencing technique, and the new SNP analysis system were both developed by Pyrosequencing AB (Uppsala, Sweden). "This characteristic speed to market is a key differentiator of Pyrosequencing and allows us to maintain our leadership as a major supplier of solutions enabling efficient applied genetic analysis,” said Erik Wallden, president and CEO of Pyrosequencing AB.
