New Microscope for Bioscience Researchers

By Biotechdaily staff writers
Posted on 27 Nov 2003
A new microscope incorporates novel features and accessories intended to expand the performance, ergonomics, and versatility of digital research microscopy.

The microscope, designed to provide stability and mechanical precision along with new levels of fluorescence performance, incorporates wide spectrum violet corrected (VC) optics, with a very wide range of research configurations available. More...
Called Eclipse 80i, the microscope's digital head is an all-in-one unit that contains an integrated epi-fluorescence attachment with six filter cube positions and an integrated shutter, beam-splitting module, eyepiece tube, and dual ports for digital cameras.

The microscope was developed by Nikon Instruments (Tokyo, Japan). The company set out to meet specific technology needs expressed by users during its development of the instrument. The versatile platform can be expanded from a basic laboratory version to a top-level, cutting-edge research system incorporating all light microscopy techniques and configurations.

"The 80i possesses a versatility that makes it adaptable to the most diverse aspects of biologic research,” said Stan Schwartz, division manager of microscopy product marketing at Nikon. "It can be built up from a microscope designed for detailed observation into a fluorescence research station with advanced digital imaging.”
