A research collaboration to discover genes and genetic variations associated with type 2 diabetes has been announced by Roche (Basel, Switzerland) and ParAllele Bioscience (South San Francisco, CA, USA).

Under the terms of the agreement, Roche will provide clinical samples for testing as well as funding to support the study. More...
ParAllele will use its proprietary single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) discovery and genotying platforms to discover common and rare genetic variations present in patient samples from Roche's collaborations and clinical trials, and will try to determine which are most often associated with type 2 diabetes. ParAllele has developed a suite of single tube assays for SNP discovery, genotyping, and variation scanning, each capable of screening thousands of targets in one reaction.

"We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Roche to discover the genetic factors contributing to type 2 diabetes,” said Nick Naclerio, Ph.D., president of ParAllele. "In the near future, we will be able to provide the unique ability to scan every gene in every sample to detect the complete set of genetic variations that may be contributing to a disease.”
