New Serological Pipet Controller Features Groundbreaking Repeat Dispense Ability

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 27 Sep 2024

The conventional approach of using serological pipets for dispensing multiple aliquots is often slow, requiring constant attention to graduation marks and manual control for each dispense. More...

Additionally, there is a continuous risk of overfilling, which can lead to filter contamination and the need for replacements. Recognizing this challenge, a revolutionary solution now promises to elevate the art of pipetting.

INTEGRA Biosciences (Zizers, Switzerland) has introduced the PIPETBOY GENIUS serological pipet controller, featuring a groundbreaking repeat dispense function. This innovation allows for faster, more accurate dispensing compared to traditional pipetting methods that rely on graduation marks. With PIPETBOY GENIUS, users can aspirate the exact total volume needed and consistently dispense aliquots ranging from 0.1 to 50 ml at the press of a button. The lightweight, compact device also offers noise- and vibration-free operation, along with advanced overfill protection to prevent liquid from being aspirated into the instrument, reducing the need to pause workflows to replace contaminated filters.

Designed to simplify lab work, the PIPETBOY GENIUS offers one-handed, intuitive control of aspiration and dispensing speeds, from slow drop-by-drop dispensing to fast rates of up to 12 ml/s. The instrument meets various experimental needs and comes with a Steady-Grip feature in its sterile module (nose piece), ensuring secure handling of serological pipets from 1 to 100 ml for enhanced stability and reliability. To add a touch of color, the PIPETBOY GENIUS is available in a variety of colors, making it both functional and visually appealing in the lab.

The PIPETBOY GENIUS allows seamless switching between manual and repeat dispense modes when used with INTEGRA serological pipets. The repeat dispense mode is ideal for fast, reproducible aliquoting, eliminating the need to manually track graduation marks on the pipet. Using this function is simple: set the dispense volume with the volume wheel, aspirate to the required level or until the overfill protection stops the flow, then press the repeat dispense button to deliver the correct volume with each aliquot. Additionally, this function eliminates the need to pipet at eye level, helping users maintain comfortable postures and reducing the risk of repetitive strain injuries.

Overfilling is a common concern in labs, as it can lead to filter contamination and the need for maintenance. The PIPETBOY GENIUS addresses this with its built-in overfill protection, especially when paired with INTEGRA serological pipets. This feature safeguards against the over-aspiration of liquids, preventing potential damage to the instrument and ensuring a streamlined workflow, giving researchers confidence in their results. Maximizing productivity is essential for lab success, and PIPETBOY GENIUS offers noise- and vibration-free pipetting with precise speed control, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, including sensitive cell handling and layering. Users can easily adjust the maximum dispense speed using a 3-position slider and fine-tune the pipetting speed with finger pressure on the aspirate and dispense buttons.

The PIPETBOY GENIUS also includes an enhanced sterile module (nose piece) featuring the Steady-Grip system, allowing for a simple click-in attachment that securely fits pipets of any volume from 1 to 100 ml, ensuring stability during use. For convenient storage, the pipet controller comes with a mounting crown that fits into a wall mount, while a ledge on the device’s top allows for upside-down storage. Another ledge at the bottom enables elevated storage with a serological pipet inserted.
