Growth Noted in French Laboratory Market

The Interprofessional Committee of Laboratory Suppliers (CIFL, Paris, France) has announced that the laboratory market in France increased by 2.6 % in the year 2005.

The CIFL is a professional association comprising 167 laboratory suppliers representing more than 80% of the laboratory market. More...
At the general assembly of the association, members were presented with a positive analysis of the laboratory market in France. The upturn was mainly noticeable in the fourth quarter, indicating a recovery of investment.
During the two previous years there had been a drop in activity, closely linked to relocation in the chemistry and pharmacy sectors, and to a freeze in public expenditures.

The results are supported by a recent market survey, conducted by CIFL together with Alcimed (Paris, France; www.alcimed.com), which forecasts a slight expansion in activity in 2006 and 2007. Alcimed is a strategy and marketing consulting firm specializing in biotechnologies, health, food, and cosmetics.

However, whereas biotechnologies recorded an overall increase of more than 6%, the analytical chemistry sector struggled to achieve a 1% growth. Some sectors remain sensitive in this market of around 1.3 million euros, particularly the largest ones such as pharmacy and chemistry, while the environment, cosmetics, and public laboratory sector show sustained vitality.

Within work groups or commissions, CIFL members deal with all topics that can influence the evolution of the laboratory profession. The main objective of CIFL is the promotion of the laboratory profession, and its greatest success in this area has been the Forum Labo (Paris, France) event.
