Partnership for Hematology Instruments

By Labmedica staff writers
Posted on 23 Feb 2005
An agreement for the commercialization of automated hematology diagnostic instruments has been announced by Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Park, IL, USA) and Nihon Kohden Corp. More...
(Tokyo, Japan), whereby the instruments will be manufactured by Nihon Kohden and distributed by Abbott.

Under the terms of the agreement, two five-part differential hematology instruments, designed to offer red and white blood cell analysis, will be manufactured by Nihon Kohden, a leading manufacturer of patient monitors, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, and hematology analyzers. Abbott will have exclusive distribution rights for the two instruments in the United States and Canada and nonexclusive distribution rights for all other countries except China and Japan. Abbott markets a line of hematology instruments that provide fast access to patient results.

"A key part of the agreement was the commitment both companies have to improving patient care through scientific advances in medical technology,” noted Harold Flynn, divisional vice president and general manager, hematology, at Abbott. "Nihon Kohden's innovative technology in blood analysis complements Abbott's capabilities and proprietary technology.”
