Paris Hosts Journees Internationales de Biologie

By Labmedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Dec 2004
Record-breaking attendance was announced for the 49th Journees Internationales de Biologie (JIB), held in Paris (France) in November 2004. More...
More then 8,000 visitors attended, and 145 companies exhibited their latest technologies. The event was organized by the Syndicat des Biologistes (SDB) for professionals in the field of medical biology in Europe. Attendees included clinical biologists, biomedical engineers, laboratory technicians, hospital physicians, and all those working in the field of in vitro diagnostics.

More than 1,100 participants attended the scientific conferences. This year, topics linked to day-to-day laboratory practice aroused strong interest. The first training course aimed at secretaries from private medical laboratories was filled to capacity. The objective of this first session was to respond to changes in a medical secretary's job by exploring the technical and legal aspects concerning patients' rights, medical confidentiality, and the releasing of medical test results. Also, humanitarian aid projects undertaken by biologists and diagnostics manufacturers who intervene in emerging countries and contribute to the evolution of medical biology and sustainable development were highlighted.

In 2005 the JIB will celebrate its 50th anniversary, with the meeting again held in Paris, November 3-5. An appealing scientific program is planned, including a session on the prospects of human therapeutic cloning and the therapeutic hope linked to stem cells.
