这款MANOS腕管释放系统的设计目的是尽量减小手术创伤,并缩短病人的恢复时间。该手术通过皮肤上的两个小切口进行,这两个切口在局部麻醉下开在TCL的远端和近端。然后将Manos套管插到韧带下面,并连接到标准的神经刺激器。刺激器刺激正中神经的运动神经纤维,使鱼际肌群出现特征性的活动,从而向外科医生指示神经束的位置。接下来,当原来的钝套管被转变成切割器械时,就可以释放韧带。TCL一旦被切开,腕管里的压力就得到释放。这就解开了被挤压的正中神经,消除了腕管综合征(CLS)的相关症状。

CTS是指腕管处的特发性正中神经疾病,其病理生理学机理尚未完全明了;风险因子主要是遗传性的,而非环境影响。CTS的主要症状是拇指、食指和无名指的间歇性麻木。麻木通常在夜间发生,给腕部打上夹板防止屈腕可缓解麻木。持续的CTS会导致神经的永久性损伤和一直麻木、鱼际肌群部分肌肉的萎缩以及拇指掌侧外展的弱化。
