La hoja también presenta tecnología de recubrimiento Microcoat para suministrar corte sostenido, suave, y preciso con menos trauma del tejido y menos cicatriz. La biopsia de raspado incluye usar una rasuradora para afeitar solamente un fragmento pequeño de un tumor que sobresale dejando la piel relativamente plana después del procedimiento. La hemostasia se obtiene usando electrocauterio de luz, solución de Monsel, o cloruro de aluminio. Se considera el método ideal de diagnóstico para el cáncer basocelular, y también puede usarse para diagnosticar carcinomas escamocelulares y melanoma in situ; sin embargo, la compresión del médico del crecimiento de esos dos últimos cánceres debe considerarse antes de usar el método de afeitado. El procedimiento es dependiente de la destreza del usuario, puesto que algunos cirujanos pueden remover un fragmento pequeño de piel con un mínimo de mancha usando cualquiera de las herramientas anteriores, mientras que otros tienen gran dificultad para asegurar los dispositivos.
