Dried Blood Spot Analysis Added to Bioanalytic Services

Posted on 09 Jun 2010

Dried Blood Spot (DBS) liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-mass (LC/MS/MS) analysis has been added to the Bioanalytic services of a pharmaceutic company.

DBS is a growing area of interest because of its advantages in sample collection, stability, and simplified storage requirements. By using DBS, sample collection and processing is greatly simplified resulting in decreased costs, increased safety, and greater comfort for test subjects.

Laurie Goldman, director of Analytic Services at the Pharmaceutic company, Particle Sciences (Bethlehem, PA, USA), commented, "Adding DBS capability is in keeping with Particle Sciences' mandate to be a leader in analytic services. While the market is not currently large, this technology is proven and we believe our clients will be increasingly adopting it. To prepare for this, we have been working to bring it in house for the last six months."

To support product development from preclinical through clinical testing, Particle Sciences offers detection, identification, and quantification of drug compounds and metabolites in biological fluids and tissues using primarily LC/MS/MS. The integrated approach spans method development and validation through sample analysis, and the expert staff insures high quality data delivered on time and on budget.

Particle Sciences is an integrated provider of drug development services. The company focuses on emulsions, gels, particulates, and drug/device combination products with additional specialized capabilities in topical and mucosal drug delivery. Through a full range of formulation, analytic, and manufacturing services, Particle Sciences provides pharmaceutical companies with a complete and seamless development solution that minimizes the time and risk between discovery and the clinic.
