Recent innovations in lateral flow technology have enabled the development of rapid tests that simultaneously screen for up to 10 different biomarkers or are able to quantify a broad range of analytes without being limited by the hook effect.

NG Biotech (Guipry, France) has incorporated a dedicated reel to reel industrial-scale system into their production process that permits simultaneous printing of up to 10 different reagents on nitrocellulose membranes. Each channel can be individually controlled for precise fluid delivery. The instrument is equipped with a state of the art optical real-time quality control system that highlights any non-conforming areas.

This technological breakthrough has been patented and is expected to open the way for the development of a new generation of point of care (PCO) applications where (a) multiple parameters need to be analyzed simultaneously, (b) there is a wide dynamic detection range of interest, or (c) antibodies and antigens need to be dosed or monitored in parallel.

The new tests—in fields as diverse as human (fertility, cardiac markers, oncology, and cardiology) and animal health, agriculture, the food industry and bio-defense—are designed for use with a range of mobile readers. Results, which are obtained in a few minutes, are able to be communicated to any server or cloud for further data sharing and management.
