Preservative Stabilizes Residual White Cells in Leuko-Reduced Samples

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 20 May 2009
A preservative specifically stabilizes residual white blood cells (rWBCs) in leuko-reduced red blood cell samples.

Compatible with commercially available kits, Leuko Preserve is intended for detection and enumeration of rWBCs by flow cytometric analysis. More...
Flow cytometric enumeration of rWBCs in leuko-reduced blood components must be implemented within 48 hours. Occasionally, problems occur making this difficult.

Streck's (Omaha, NE, USA) Leuko Preserve stabilizes rWBCs for up to seven days following leuko-reduction, extending the timeframe for enumeration. This reduces concerns of sample backlogs, instrument problems, and shipping delays.

Additional Streck cell stabilization products include Streck Cell Preservative for the preservation of bone marrow and tissue samples; Cyto-Chex BCT (Blood Collection Tube) for the preservation of whole blood samples for immunophenotyping by flow cytometry; and Cell-Free DNA BCT, a new blood collection tube for the preservation of cell-free plasma DNA. Cell-Free DNA BCT is for research use only.

Streck has also increased the stability of its three-part Para Check whole blood hematology control. Manufactured specifically for the Sysmex KX-21, pocH-100i, and the SweLab AC920EO, the three-part control now offers closed-vial stability of 132 days. The extended closed-vial stability will allow customers to maintain a quarterly ordering schedule, decreasing shipping costs and increasing the ILQC (interlaboratory quality control) peer groups for each instrument on the assay. Para Check is available in a 2.5-ml or 3.5-ml vial with a pierceable cap to accommodate both open- and closed-mode systems.

STATS, a free interlaboratory quality control program, is offered to all Para Check customers. STATS produces relevant peer group comparison reports and graphs with a quick turnaround time. Data can be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail. The reports include customer data, peer group averages, and computer-generated Levey-Jennings graphs.

Streck is an independent developer and manufacturer of controls for the clinical laboratory.
