A new state-of-the-art clinical chemistry analyzer has been unveiled at the Düsseldorf (Germany), Medica 2015 biomedical instrumentation fair.

This year's fair, which was held during November 16–19, 2015, saw the introduction of the EKF Diagnostics (Cardiff, United Kingdom) Altair 240 clinical chemistry analyzer.

This new bench-top platform represents EKF Diagnostics’ first fully integrated chemistry system designed for the global market. EKF believes that the new Altair 240 clinical chemistry analyzer fulfills an international market need for a fully automated bench-top platform supported by Stanbio Chemistry (Boerne, TX, USA) reagent menu.

The new analyzer is highly efficient, as it can run up to 400 tests per hour with an optional ISE module. Dual reagent probes translate to higher throughput and faster patient turn-around times. Operating cost efficiencies are also realized through an integrated cuvette washing station, enabling the reuse of cuvettes; as well as continual 24-hour on-board cooling, which ensures most reagents have a 30-day on board stability to minimize waste.

“We listened to the needs of our customers and designed the Altair 240 to be easy to learn, operate, and maintain,” said Albert Blanco, business unit director at EKF Diagnostics. “Because it runs on Windows 7, operators can easily navigate its intuitive, touch screen menu. Innovative features such as the capability to use barcoded primary sample tubes, auto-rerun, auto-dilution, and STAT interruption, all function to maximize the system’s overall efficiency.”

EKF also discussed the latest additions to its Stanbio clinical chemistry range. This range includes a large selection of clinical chemistry assays, controls, and calibrators, which are fully compatible with most major brand open channel chemistry analyzers.

In addition, EKF exhibited its full range of POC (point-of-care) blood analyzers. This comprehensive range includes hemoglobin analyzers, lactate analyzers, glucose testing, and HbA1c analyzers. All are simple to use and designed to quickly deliver accurate results to aid the diagnosis of anemia, diabetes and associated conditions.
